Don't expect to settle on your debts "50 cents to the dollar".....jeesh! They are, in fact, YOUR debts, so pay them off. Call your credit card companies, explain your situation, and ask them to cancel the cards, and drop the interest rates to a lower rate if they are willing to help. A lot of times creditors want their cash...and you taking the initiative to show them that you are willing to try is a good start to a happy relationship with them. I suggest cutting way back on anything you don't need, and putting as much toward paying off your debts as you can. Don't try to welch off your loans, though......be a man and pay back what you borrowed....
